On January 19, 2006 (which happened to be Gordon’s birthday), my husband and I boarded a Singapore Airlines jet and set off for three weeks of fun in the “Teardrop of India”: beautiful SRI LANKA! Herein you will find photos and memories from our wonderful trip, a few tips and recommendations, and tales of our encounters with amazing wildlife and the equally amazing Sri Lankan people, whose smiles lit up our journey. I drank more tea than you can possibly imagine, while Gordon guzzled Sri Lankan-size beers and we both ate vast quantities of yummy curry and tropical fruit. We can’t recommend this jewel of a country enough as a travel destination, and they need all the tourists they can get there after the devastating tsunami of 2004. Visit Sri Lanka, and Ayubowan: may you live long!

And here is a quote from Mark Twain, which sums up my feelings nicely, although I would substitute "people" for "men", being the 21st century woman that I am.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it solely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one corner of the earth all one's lifetime.
